In 2018, Dr. T. Scott McMurry began looking for a way to improve on how primary care could be delivered in the US. He recognized that the standard model was holding back doctors from truly connecting with their patients, which was preventing high quality care. After years of research and learning, he was able to connect with a robust network of doctors who were doing that very thing, and they called it Direct Primary Care.

Starting in January of 2023, Waiola Direct Care opened its doors to provide something new and valuable to the people of West Hawaii. Dr. McMurry is using the lessons learned from the thousands of Direct Primary care practices that exist all over the US. He is working with local and healthcare businesses to help to lower the costs of care for our members. He wants to restore the traditional doctor-patient relationship and provide an exceptional level of care for his community.

Dr. McMurry has a long history of military service. He previously spent time in the active duty army with the 82nd Airborne Division as an Infantryman.  Currently, he serves as a medical officer with the 1/299 Cavalry Squadron in Hilo.

In 2021 he moved to Kona with his wife and four children to provide primary care to the Big Island. You will often find them at any number of local beaches or hiking trails as they love the outdoors. Dr. McMurry enjoys freediving, spearfishing, hunting, and sailing in his spare time.
