The Manchester Journal announced a new primary care physician – a service that Vermont has faced a shortage of in recent years – with the opening of Manchester Direct Family Practice on Monday, April 15. The practice is owned and operated by Leigh LoPresti, MD, a physician and educator who previously served Manchester’s community more than twenty years ago.

Having graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, LoPresti completed his residency in Family Medicine in Burlington before going on to practice in Manchester, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. In addition to his practice experience, he has served on the faculties of the University of Vermont, UMass Medical Center, Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Medical College of Wisconsin.

He had previously practiced in Manchester from 1991 to 2001 but eventually left to teach. LoPresti always wanted to get back to Manchester to practice and is now thrilled to be offering care under the Direct Primary Care model of medicine.

I love that every patient visit, telephone or text question, or video appointment will be handled by me. While the average family physician in the nation is responsible for 2,500 patients, I will stop accepting patients at approximately 700 in order to offer the highest quality healthcare and excellent access to each patient. One of the great privileges of being a family physician is taking care of whole families as well as individual patients. When the whole family comes to one doctor, it deepens the relationship, and my relationships with people are the most rewarding part of my practice.

Congratulations to Dr. LoPresti for bringing DPC back to his home of Manchester, Vermont.
