Amy Couturier, MD, IBCLC opened Up North Pediatrics in May 2021 in Traverse City, Michigan. Dr. Couturier had previously practiced in California before moving to Michigan with her husband Spencer, who is also a physician and her two children. In 2020, she stayed home with her children, who were then age 5 and a baby.

Amy’s husband was the first to mention the idea of DPC to her while she was at home for that year. After more research and help from other DPC doctors, she decided to go for it. She started Up North Pediatrics with no patients and with being new to the area. She practices a concierge style (but does NOT bill insurance) pediatrics with an emphasis on lactation care and ADHD. Since there is only one school psychiatrist in the area, this is a very important resource she brings to the community. In fact, before becoming a doctor, Amy was first a 7th and 8th grade math teacher with Teach for America, a prestigious program that teaches young professionals to be teachers in underserved areas. She brings a unique perspective and skill set having been a teacher and now being a doctor.

Up North is more than a DPC Pediatric Practice, it is also a philosophy for life. Dr. Couturier says:

“Up North” for me is being more present and focusing on what really matters most. Raising children is one of the hardest yet rewarding endeavors and I am humbled and honored to be a part of your journey.

The DPC community welcomes Dr. Couturier to the family.
