Methow Valley News in Washington State introduced Liberty Bell Family Medicine to he community. Dr. Kellar McCloy and his wife Lauren, pictured above with their child, had a soft opening for Liberty Bell Family Medicine in April and are now officially opened.

The son of a gastroenterologist, Dr. McCloy developed a deep respect for medicine at an early age. His calling to Family Medicine came while working a summer job during college at a Family Medicine clinic for the underserved population of Memphis. During this time, he also participated in multiple medical trips to Haiti. As early as medical school, Dr. McCloy saw firsthand many of the challenges that existed within the traditional healthcare system, including difficulties with access to care, inadequate time spent with patients, and insurance denials for needed specialty care, medications or imaging. Despite these challenges, Dr McCloy remained dedicated to Family Medicine and become more hopeful when he was introduced to Direct Primary Care during a residency in Olympia.

I saw how much time she (the physician) was able to spend with her patients and was impressed with how happy her patients were. She had patients that were incredibly happy with the service they got with her, the time they had with her, the access they had with her.

McCloy has experience in wilderness, sports and addiction medicine, and hopes to use all of those skills in the course of his DPC practice. A long-time runner and skier, and former climber, McCloy knows the hazards of an active life and hopes that patients dealing with sports injuries will benefit from his specialized skills.

I think the doctor-patient relationship and continuity of care are two of the most important things about primary care medicine. The increased amount of time that I am afforded with patients in direct primary care and the better access they have to me are two of the things that I love about direct primary care. When patients can see their doctor for 60-90 minutes whenever they want to, there’s time to talk about all of the things they may want to address, and if we finish up a visit and something else pops into their mind that we forgot to talk about, they’ve got my cell phone number. My hope is to create great relationships with patients…and hopefully be able to take care of them for decades to come.
