Lani Braun, MD was born and raised in Quito-Ecuador. After experiencing incredible hands-on training in Mexico by delivering babies without electricity on top of a mountain to managing peritoneal dialysis on my own as a student, she moved to Chicago to finish her training in Internal Medicine. Three years of residency plus one year of chief residency, she went off to change the world…or so she thought.

After 15 years of practicing in different settings (teaching hospital, clinic) I had a eureka moment. I was not able to change the world because working for a medical system limited my passion for caring for people.I was with the same company for 11 years and found myself acting as a robot, not being able to advocate for my patients due to financial bottom line of the company.

Then, by chance or perhaps by destiny, she found out about DPC on a Facebook mom group, and after two years of research she started her own DPC practice, Healthee MD.

Direct primary care is teaching me everyday. I’m challenging myself and learning new things, not only medical but personal and financial. I am happy going to work which shows in my family life and I’m teaching my kids to work hard for your dreams but also enjoy them (dreams).

Through starting her own DPC practice, she has realized that she can now also have family quality time with her husband and three children. As it says on her website, “It’s a WIN-WIN” scenario.”
