Direct Primary Care (DPC) is reshaping the way physicians and patients think about healthcare. By stepping away from traditional insurance models, DPC allows doctors to foster deeper, more personal relationships with their patients, as was so passionately articulated by our guest, Dr. Kyle Hampton from Arktos Direct Care.

Dr. Hampton’s Journey: From Traditional Practice to DPC Innovation

In the latest episode of My DPC Story Podcast, Dr. Kyle Hampton shares his transformative journey from the conventional healthcare system’s frustrations to the innovative model of Direct Primary Care. Having practiced primary care in multiple states, his experiences culminated in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he launched Arktos Direct Care. The move was propelled by a desire to offer comprehensive care, including family medicine, regenerative medicine, and osteopathy, without the restrictions he faced while working at a Federated Qualified Health Clinic (FQHC).

Challenges and Growth: Overcoming Obstacles and Flourishing in Fort Collins

Like any new venture, the growth of Arktos Direct Care wasn’t without hurdles. Financial challenges were met with perseverance and familial support, as Dr. Hampton reveals the intricate dance of nurturing a practice to fruition. Marketing efforts played a crucial role, from social media to collaborations with fellow DPC practices. Word-of-mouth referrals, employer partnerships, and transparency in services offered helped them turn the tide toward success.

Balancing Family and Business: The Personal Side of Running a DPC Practice

The importance of balance cannot be overstated, especially when running a DPC practice. Dr. Hampton’s reflections on managing family life, hiring suitable staff, and navigating health coverage for small businesses with health shares highlighted a comprehensive approach to work-life balance. The inclusion of their family’s story, particularly the impactful role his wife played in both her field and in supporting the DPC, provides insight into the dynamic of family-operated practices.

Patient Care and Services: A Deep Dive into the Patient Experience at Arktos Direct Care

At the core of our discussion were the exceptional patient services offered at Arktos Direct Care. By providing treatments like osteopathic manipulative therapy and aesthetic medicine, patients have access to a unique blend of care options. Leveraging Resources to Foster Practice Efficiency

The conversation wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the effective use of technology. This autonomy extends to collaborative relations with organizations, aiding the practice in maintaining patient standards and financial integrity.

Branding and Marketing Strategies: Building a Recognizable DPC Brand

Building a strong, recognizable brand is vital in today’s healthcare market, and Arktos Direct Care offers a prime example. By Maryal Concepcion, MD

A Sacramento native, Dr. Maryal Concepcion is a Filipinx creator and connector. She attended the University of California at Davis where she graduated in 2005 with a double major in Anthropology (BS) and Evolution & Ecology (BA). She had an unforgettable time as a California transplant when she got her MD at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. It was there she discovered hayrack rides, found her Husband, Dr. Jeremiah Fillo, and discovered her love of rural family medicine. Her residency training was in the unopposed family medicine program at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto, a training extension through the UC Davis Medical School. During her time in training, she returned to rural Superior Nebraska to complete proficiency training in performing colonoscopies as part of her rural family medicine concentration. After residency, she moved to Arnold, CA where she worked under the fee for service model with her Husband doing full-scope care for over five years. Though grateful for her experience in this role, she was driven to seek a better way of life and a desire to practice insurance-free medicine and that was when she discovered DPC. She is the founder and host of the podcast My DPC Story, a weekly podcast that educates and inspires by featuring DPC and direct care physicians. Find it at mydpcstory.com and on all major podcasting platforms. Most recently, she became the CEO and wearer-of-all-the-other-hats at Big Trees MD, the first Direct Primary Care in Arnold, a rural town of 4,000 in the Stanislaus National Forest located in Northern California. Her clinic was created as a telemedicine and home visit model without a brick and mortar space. But, the title she is most proud of is being a Mama to Asher & Nolan, her two ridiculously awesome and cuddly boys!
