I am in a snarky mood so I thought I would share this with you. This course is only about $2500K! Here are some of the highlights (the link has all of it) they are teaching:

Course Objectives

Quality

  • Assess quality as it relates to a consumer-centric health care system
  • Examine the elements of quality improvement theories and frameworks

Influence

  • Develop strategies to maximize productivity of teams and individuals

Negotiation

  • Uncover the proven step-by-step structure to negotiate anything
  • Analyze the three parameters that keep negotiators protected during a discussion

Communication

  • Interpret non-verbal cues and specific words that can communicate intent
  • Understand the four communication styles based on the DiSC psychometric assessment

What is my point in sharing this on a Direct Primary Care site? Well, a few things. I do believe hospital administrators need to empower their doctors and NOT devalue them. I wrote about this in my book meant for them and…..they hated it!!! Worst selling book ever. LOL. Instead, administrators want to focus on quality, influence, negotiation, and psychometric assessment. Do you see the disconnect? The focus is NOT on you as a doctor anymore. Those days are gone. They don’t care if you leave because they want to replace you anyway. If you think it will get any better in the system, you are deluded.

GET OUT. DO DIRECT PRIMARY CARE!

Second, the organization doing this conference is meant for physicians. You know, the ones who turn to the dark side to supposedly lead other physicians. These sellouts are the most vocal when doctors criticize administrators. They are the first to defend them. They were also the most hated by other doctors when I worked in the system.

Lastly, how the hell are these conferences $2500K? The DPC Summit is $500. That’s a five to one ratio. Then it hit me. That is the same ratio of an administrator’s salary to ours.
