Opening a DPC practice has been a goal of mine ever since residency. For many people, the thought of opening a private practice seems impossible, even more so one with an “alternate” payment model. The main reason I was able to even envision opening a practice was because of current DPC docs who were open to teaching me and allowing me to get involved in the community early on. I’ve been involved in many ways as a “resident member” which gave me amazing experiences, and now would like to pass on the baton so another learner or learners can have the experience I did. If you’re a resident or medical student reading this and would like to be more involved in the DPC community, please reach out. If you’re someone who works with medical students or residents and knows someone stellar who is passionate about DPC please let me know as well. Email [email protected]

Writing the diary series has been an adventure for me because I generally didn’t know what I was going to write before I wrote it. I think that was part of the idea when Doug Farrago asked me to write these- a peek behind the curtain of starting a new DPC. I’m now three months into my DPC being officially opened and I’ve reached a steady state where my experiences now may not be as helpful or interesting to share, so this will be my last diary post for the immediate future. Below is a table of contents of all my previous posts and they have all been tagged with diary to find them easier. https://dpcnews.com/tag/diary/

Part 1: Ready to Rumble

Part 2: The Money Pit

Part 3: Hear ye, Hear ye

Part 4: 525,600 minutes

Part 5: Good Enough

Part 6: Blood, Sweat, and Tears

Part 7: Watching Water Boil

Part 8: My Why

Part 9: The Rising Tide

While my diary series is ending, I think it would be fun to keep the diary series going with posts from others. Do you have writings from when your DPC started that you would like to share? Are you currently starting out and want to write down some thoughts? Or maybe you know someone who is starting out and want to encourage them to share their experiences. Hearing stories from the early days of DPC practices is always exciting and everyone has such a unique story and experience. Reach out to me at [email protected] and I will be happy to post here.

Thanks to everyone who has read all or parts of my diary series. As DPC continues to grow, one of my goals is to involve more people and share more stories which is why this post is as much a conclusion as a call to action for a new beginning.
