If you choose to make your own DPC empire then that is totally up to you. No judgment here. I am not a huge fan of it and decided NOT to go that route myself. I found it better to help others open their own practices locally.

I also know of a few DPC docs that have prospered and enjoyed building multiple clinics or constantly expanding their own practice. It seems to work so good for them. Heck, we advertise for practices here to get other docs to join.

But what about the rest of you?

I think you truly need to hone your skills and get your practice perfect before thinking about expanding. Don’t worry about the hospital or some local group who are tinkering with DPC. They will screw up like the competition I had here in Virginia. Remember, there will ALWAYS be someone bigger than you (see the picture above). It’s all about perspective. Bigger is not always better. Sometimes a small, happy, and financially viable practice is all you need to be complete.

Just my thoughts. I am open to what others think.

  1. Doug, this is so true! Design your ideal life first, then build your practice to support it. Time after time, doing it the opposite way leads to disaster.
