Rinku Mehra, MD, MBA completed her undergraduate education and medical school at the University of Virginia, and she then ventured to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago for her residency, followed by a Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Iowa. She is board-certified in Pediatric Endocrinology and in Obesity Medicine. Dr. Mehra also earned her Physician Executive MBA from The University of Tennessee’s Haslam School of Business in 2022.

Prior to launching The Mehra Clinic, she served as assistant professor of pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center in DC and subsequently as medical director of Pediatric Endocrinology at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She also has experience working as a medical officer at the Food and Drug Administration and serving as a consultant at 2ndMD to provide second opinion services to patients with pediatric endocrine concerns across the United States.

I now began my practice because I want to provide more personalized care for my patients. I also want to take the time to answer my patient’s questions in an unrushed manner. I also want to improve health outcomes for patients with diabetes and want to focus more on diabetes prevention in childhood and have a practice that is personalized where I know my patients and their struggles. I want to serve my patients the way I would serve my family. I also want to take away the barriers of traffic and missed school and work by providing telemedicine services.

Dr. Mehra has always been a champion of education and health and wellness.  As an immigrant and a woman from Afghanistan, where women historically have had no rights to an education, Dr. Mehra learned early on to value education and to be an advocate for health and wellness in women. Her goal is to empower young girls and women to understand their bodies and health from an early age and have access to a specialist who cares about them the way their own family does. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and two children age 11 and 13. She is a soccer and dance mom for her children and enjoys traveling and trying new foods. She loves to learn about new cultures and loves to learn from her patients.

It’s very interesting to see how the DPC model can be incorporated into many different types of practices.
