Lantern Health is seeking a physician partner(s) to join our effort in the Belmont, NC community in the greater Charlotte area. We were founded in 2018 in Asheville, NC, where we have 2 locations and a team of 8 family physicians plus nurses and health coaches, together offering comprehensive direct primary care. We are driven to transform primary care in communities throughout our region and thrilled to be expanding to the lovely community of Belmont, where we will supporting the retirement of a 10 year DPC family doc by continuing his practice as part of our effort. In this light, it is tremendous opportunity to begin with a full panel and salary for at least one family doc, easing the financial burden of transitioning to DPC that so many of us continue to navigate.
We are specifically interested in those aligned with our mission, vision, and values, who are passionate to be the change we so desperately need in health care. This is a striking opportunity to practice primary care the way it is meant to be and engage in leadership areas of interest, while not having to carry the financial or logistical burden of owning and operating a DPC practice. That said, we also have no interest in recreating a big corporate entity but rather are an independent, physician-owned organization with plans to convert the business into an employee-owned trust, a legal structure that ensures Lantern is owned and controlled indefinitely for the benefit of its employees and clients and connected with it’s local communities.
If you are highly motivated to transform primary care, work smarter and independently as part
of a small, growing, dynamic team, and create meaningful connections with clients and community, please contact Dr. Ben Aiken at [email protected].

Sounds like a good offer for a young doc who can move to the area to get involved in an established DPC practice. Me? I’m too old (68), burned out and retired at 64. Happy to say I’m fully recovered from the “burned out” part since I retired and enjoy doing what I want, when I want with my mentally handicapped son I have guardianship of. Been a widower for 6 years too so I had too much on my plate to continue practicing. I did hospital, office and took call in a large group practice that was a nice place to work but it eventually became too tiring for me. I continued working for two years after my wife died and retired just one year earlier than I had planned. We couldn’t take vacation trips due to our son’s unpredictable behaviors so that “vacation money” went into the retirement fund and allowed me to retire when I needed to with no problems. My son outgrew his undesired behaviors and we were going to start taking vacations but my lovely spouse died. DPC will not work in all areas like with a large Public Aid load. Have to be somewhere where there are good jobs and families can afford the fees upfront.
