Book Recommendation

Author: Sarah Zaheer, MD

I am 3 years into my DPC practice and I am constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency and automate processes. I am acutely aware that if I don’t, I am at risk for a different type of a burnout. The other day, completely by chance I stumbled upon this gem of a book. The timing could not be more perfect and the content cannot be more relatable.

Like many of you, I designed my micropractice so that I can better address my patients’ needs but also to create a healthy dynamic between my professional and personal life.  Besides patient satisfaction, there are two types of markers that I have to hit-  a financial one that allows me to be a sustainable business and another to do it all in a certain amount of hours per week ( mostly school hours), while not losing sight of the original mission.

This book Burnout in Direct Primary Care by Dr Kirsten Lin speaks to the same struggles and in the most straightforward, easy to digest manner. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited and is a quick read. I read it in one sitting in under 3 hours.

We talk plenty about corporate burnout and the joy, excitement of starting DPC. We don’t talk enough about how to sustain your DPC dream. In true DPC doc style, Dr Lin is very open about her experiences and generous with her advice. I felt validated, inspired and energized by this book.

Full disclosure, I am not sure Dr Lin even knows me and I certainly have no financial gain from this book but this is a good one!
