DPC Masterminds: Go from Curiosity to Confidence

It’s an odd way to start a conversation, but anytime the DPC Alliance team attends a conference, there’s always one or two DPC doctors that rush toward us and confess that they didn’t think opening a DPC practice was possible until they attended one of our Masterminds.

It happened recently in San Diego at the California Academy of Family Physicians’ Prism of Practice conference. Our team was handing out flyers and chatting with residents who are curious about the Direct Primary Care model, and this young woman approached the table with a big smile. In front of everyone, she exclaimed, “I just opened my DPC practice a month ago and couldn’t have done it without DPC Alliance!”

She then went on to explain that she attended a Masterminds in Wisconsin, and had it not been for that experience, she doesn’t think she would have found the courage to open. And that’s why we developed them – Masterminds help doctors overcome their reluctance by connecting them with others who forged the journey before them and found success. Our mission is to grow the DPC physician community, and there’s no better way than providing face-to-face peer support. We wish Dr. Rubeena Dhami and Moonstone Direct Primary Care all the best in her first year!

Why Masterminds?

If you are looking for an intentional and interactive small-group program that is led by seasoned DPC physicians, then Masterminds is for you. If you have questions, want to know what you don’t know about running a DPC practice, and find more confidence to make the transition with the right circle of influence to guide you along your journey, then Masterminds is for you.

Participants are immersed in a setting that prioritizes connection, dialogue, and collaboration. The two-day format covers everything you need to know about the daily life of a DPC practice owner and allows for extended one-on-one conversations with peers and presenters, giving everyone the chance to dive into the issues most relevant to their place in the journey. Masterminds also include tours of an operational DPC practice and the flexibility to discuss topics in greater depth as a group or one-on-one with a DPC physician presenter.

From financing to hiring staff; building the patient panel to working with labs and imaging groups, physicians curious about the DPC model walk away with more than just handouts – they gain a group of peers and mentors that have their back during the transition and beyond.

The DPC Alliance is hosting a DPC Masterminds on October 8 & 9, 2026, in Frisco, Texas. And this one is super-charged! DPC Alliance President Dr. Kelsey Smith is leading the sessions, with additional support from Dr. Kissi Blackwell and Dr. Creig Shute. The event will be held at the Drury Hotel in Frisco, just north of Dallas. Dr. Alex Santiago will provide a tour of her DPC practice too.

DPC Alliance hosts two Masterminds each year. Locations for 2027 will be determined soon. But if you are itching to get your practice going in the next six months to a year, then Frisco Masterminds is a must attend. We want you to be the next doctor who rushes to our conference booth and exclaims “I did it with DPC Alliance!” The Masterminds class schedule and registration information is available at www.dpcalliance.org.
