For those craving a different kind of health care, Rhythmia Health has opened in Portland, ME.

Sarah Johnson, DO, her patients call her Dr. Sal, is a local Portland musician in the actively performing rock band The Crowded Table. She is also a Family Practice physician. She trained at the University of New England and completed her residency training at Maine Dartmouth in Augusta.

On September 6, 2023, Dr. Sal opened the doors to start accepting patients at Rhythmia Health, her new Direct Primary Care practice. The practice is a direct care membership model at its core, meaning that by cutting out third parties like insurance and instead simplifying to a monthly membership fee. In addition, Rhythmia’s values are rooted in celebrating the creative lifestyle and creating a comfortable and welcoming environment where everyone and everything that makes them unique not only fit in but are celebrated. As an artist, she feels strongly about the role that art, collaboration, and creativity, in its many forms, have played in keeping her balanced and healthy.

I couldn’t help but notice how little focus there is on creativity, adventure, music and the arts in healthcare. How can we leave something so critical out of the formula? With Rhythmia, I want to introduce Portland creatives to something different.

With Rhythmia I hope to curate the accessible and relatable care that Portland’s creatives have been seeking. I hope that by stepping outside the box myself that I will help to inspire patients to see the beauty in stepping outside the box themselves.

Rhythmia is rooted in creating an environment where all the layers of your person are working together in rhythm.
