Horizons Direct Primary Care Opens in Scarborough, ME

Michelle Garcia, MD is a board certified family medicine doctor with over 10 years of experience and is the founder of Horizons Direct Primary Care. While she grew up in California, after living in Maine for 11 years, she is proud to call Maine her home. She is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her family medicine training at the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in Augusta, Maine.

Dr. Garcia has worked in full spectrum primary care in New England for several years until she found Direct Primary Care. She feels confident that this model is the answer to providing the quality of medical care which so many patients are rightfully looking for.

I went into Direct Primary Care because I feel that this is the way for me to deliver my best care to patients. I went into primary care because I love the relationships I develop with patients and their families. I think this is the foundation of all we do. This takes spending time with people and being available when people really need you. After spending over a decade working in fee for service model hospital owned offices, I felt that this was getting harder and harder with the pressures of high volume and short appointment times, leading to me feeling spread thin when I couldn’t help but go the extra mile for my patients. I am excited to be opening my DPC practice and being able to provide the care my patients deserve.

While she loves all aspects of practicing primary care, she has a particular interest in preventative health and lifestyle approaches to chronic disease management. She is also passionate about women’s health, pediatrics, mental health, and palliative care.

When she’s not practicing medicine, she is spending time with her husband, daughter, and Bernese Mountain Dog Bailey. Dr. Garcia has lived in Scarborough for 7 years and is excited to be providing care in her home community.
