Dr. Alejandra Alvarez is the dedicated primary care physician at EmpowerMed DPC. She was granted her medical degree by the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida. Dr. Alvarez continued her post-graduate education at the Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Program in Sugar Land, Texas. During her residency she honed her skills as a family doctor, learning to care for patients through every stage of life. She also excelled at sharing her knowledge with her colleagues and educating medical students. As a graduating resident she was conferred with the John M. Passmore Jr. MD Resident Teaching Excellence Award.

Upon completion of her family medicine specialty training, Dr. Alvarez moved back to her hometown of Miami, Florida to be closer to her family and childhood friends. For several years she worked as a primary care doctor in the traditional health care system. She also works as a hospice physician, guiding patients and families through their end-of-life decisions.

Dr. Alvarez has always treasured the significance of the doctor-patient relationship and has recognized the need for improved quality and access to true primary care. She has demonstrated commitment to the care of the individual patient and the general community throughout her education and career. All of these efforts have culminated in the founding of EmpowerMed DPC. 

During my training and in my early years as a practicing physician, I promised myself to never lose sight of my priority: providing quality care to my patients. I soon realized that the traditional system and its administrators had other priorities that certainly didn’t align with mine. Even worse, it didn’t align with the needs of my medically complex patients. I was also endlessly frustrated with the lack of options to provide affordable care to those who were uninsured.

Dr. Alvarez is now practicing medicine in the way she always dreamed of. She is still taking new patients and is ready to care for the people of South Florida. She is a Miami native, fluent in both English and Spanish and is proud to serve her city and her community!
