DPC is Thriving in Bridge City, Texas

The Record Live out of Orange County, Texas recently did an article on Amy Townsend, MD. She was the first doctor to adopt DPC in Southeast Texas in 2020 when she opened Amy Townsend, MD, and today she has about 400 patients She will likely cap her practice around 500-600 patients, though she said she would like to bring another physician in when she gets close to that number.
A lot of the expense that’s involved with healthcare has to do with all the administrative burden that goes along with filing insurance, putting up roadblocks to actually prevent people from getting care. The care that we provide is not really expensive. It’s not thousands of dollars like a surgical procedure. Primary care can be done better outside of the insurance system altogether. Rather than me filing claims on an insurance plan, patients sign up to be members of the practice and they pay a predictable monthly fee that covers everything that I do here in the office.
Dr. Amy Townsend is a board-certified family medicine physician with deep roots in Southeast Texas. After graduating from Bridge City High School, she attended Texas A&M University where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science. She obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she was an honor graduate. Dr. Townsend completed her residency with the Louisiana State University Family Medicine Program in Lake Charles, where she also served as co-chief resident.
After her training, Dr. Townsend returned to Southeast Texas with her husband and daughter to serve the local community. She had almost 20 years of experience in various healthcare settings, including outpatient primary care and inpatient hospital medicine before starting her own DPC practice. In her DPC practice, her goal is to provide quality, affordable primary care that prioritizes the patient-physician relationship, and eliminate the healthcare obstacles created by insurance companies and government regulations.
She is doing just that with the help of Pam Williams, RN who has lived her entire life in Bridge City, Texas. With 26 years in healthcare she has seen the roadblocks that insurance-based companies create. Now working in patient-centered care she can better assist patients with their healthcare needs without the roadblocks and denials of insurance companies.
Congratulations to Amy Townsend, MD and Pam Williams, RN. We love hearing updates of DPC practices.
