Castro Direct Primary Care is Serving San Francisco, CA

Dr. Praveena Selvaduray began Castro Direct Primary Care after a decade of frustration in large healthcare systems, where healthcare was structured to meet the needs of a very narrow demographic of patients. The inability to provide her patients with the care she knew they deserved and the care she knew they were capable of giving frequently left her feeling burnt out. She even considered leaving medicine altogether despite deeply enjoying caring for their patients. Instead of letting this broken system drive her out of the profession she loved, she dreamed of something better. So, Dr. Selvaduray started Castro Direct Primary Care which now focuses on building relationships and holding space for all people.

Dr. Selvaduray sums up her feelings about starting this new DPC practice in San Francisco, CA.

I went into primary care because I love building relationships, holding space and advocating for patients. During my decade of trying to provide primary care within corporate structures I found that I simply could not do the job in a way that maintained my self-respect as a professional, let alone my personal health. Many of my patients are minorities in the healthcare system and I repeatedly saw policy changes that hurt them even more than the existing system, in favor of further increasing revenue. I could not see a reason to continue in a system that does not serve patients AND hurts its physicians and staff. I am so grateful to have found another option and thus far am loving it. I am taking better care of my patients and myself/my family.”

Congratulations to Dr. Selvaduray for starting Castro Direct Primary Care. Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to the DPC family.
