Direct primary care practice Aroha Medical opened July 14 at 1317 Picadilly Drive, Unit C-302, Pflugerville. As a resident of Pflugerville, Dr. Sumbal Khan noticed that while DPC practices are already established and growing in the northwest and south Austin and suburbs, Pflugerville did not have one. 

Dr. Sumbal Khan, owner and physician, is an internist with extensive experience managing acute and chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, depression and anxiety, and more.She completed her degree at a top medical school in Pakistan in 1998 before following her dream of coming to the United States, where she completed her residency in internal medicine in 2005 at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Khan has more than 15 years of medical experience.Her medical philosophy is based on a whole-person approach, where she focuses on getting to know each patient better, focusing on the doctor/patient relationship, offering compassionate care, and providing unlimited and affordable access to medical treatment. She loves to read and spend time with her family, and she is becoming certified as a life coach to help her patients develop the habits required to stay healthy.

Dr. Khan explains why she chose the name Aroha Medical?

I strongly believe that compassion and empathy are as much a component of the art and science of Medicine as is the knowledge and skills we spend years to acquire as physicians, I named my practice ‘Aroha’ which is a Māori word with layers of meanings including compassion, empathy, kindness, and of course, love. I hope to provide comprehensive care to my patients with compassion and a commitment to excellence.
