I want to share with you this exchange between Kylie Vannaman, MD and a surprise suitor. I am seeing more and more of this. Big Corporations and VC are trying to make DPC their thing. They also see the immense value in the DPC membership model. But what are the odds they keep it the same? Do you not predict a change and be more controversial like what we hear at One Medical?
Many of you are too young to remember but this story is a repeat. Hospitals were the ones buying up FFS practices. No one came away happy after that.
What if they gave you 500K to a million dollars, you may ask? We don’t see that happening but remember, an established practice makes that in 2 to 4 years. So then what do you do? Do you have to work for the practice forever? Do you have to move if you want to go out on your own due to a non-compete clause? This gets really tricky and usually, the leverage is not on your side.
Dr. Vannaman did not go over the details but the choice to sell out is obviously yours. Buyer beware, however.
P.S. We LOVE Dr. Vannaman’s response! And we LOVE her ending when she said “Be Well! For those in the club, you know what that means.
