A new study in JAMA came out and it’s called Well-Being Parameters and Intention to Leave Current Institution Among Academic Physicians. The results show that 32.6% indicated moderate or higher intention to leave within 2 years. Why?
Burnout, lack of professional fulfillment, and other personal and organizational factors were associated with intention to leave.
The physician who took over my practice was in academia and he is finally as happy as he has ever been as a doctor. All those factors causing docs to leave in this study are remedied by DPC. These institutions are not going to fix the problem. Sure, they pretend to play the game and say all the right things but nothing ever changes. So, to all those doctors leaving their institutions, I want to say this. Do Direct Care. Until then, like Motel 6, we’ll leave the light on for you.
