DPC Humor: Because this job is still tough and we all need to laugh sometimes

DPC is great but it is still tough. Yes, it is better than being employed by the system but let’s not forget that just being a doctor takes its toll on you. From 2001-20011 I was the editor and creator of the Placebo Journal, a bimonthly magazine that made doctors laugh. It got a lot of attention in the day and we were written up by the Washington Post, US News and World Report, the AP, etc. I even had a book published by Random House called The Placebo Chronicles.

A few years into that publication I met some young whipper snapper who wanted to write for me. His name was Vance Lassey. In fact, it still is and he still is a pain in my ass. We have been friends for two decades. When we hang out and make each other laugh, it is probably the most fun I have. It’s therapeutic because that is what humor is. The Placebo Journal became the intense psychotherapy I needed and the one my insurance wouldn’t approve for me to receive.

You will see a new section on top of this site called DPC Humor. It is DPC-centric. Mostly. I have collected the stuff written here over the past three years that belongs in this section. I highly recommend you scroll through and see if it doesn’t help you or make you laugh.

DO IT. You’ll thank me.

And there will be more to come! In fact, I am collecting the best stuff from the Placebo Journal for a book to be published. I will probably grab stuff from there and share it here as well.

So, enjoy. Laugh a little. Smile. And PLEASE leave comments because we all need positive affirmations to keep going!

(editor’s note: the placebojournal.com domain name is owned by others which sucks. It’s a dead link).
