Wisdom From Unlikely Sources

Between the day I heard the words Direct Primary Care and the day I saw my first DPC patient in my own office was only 93 days! Once I learned about this model of medicine, I knew it was for me! (Thank you, Doug, for teaching me about DPC and helping me get my practice off the ground!)
Going from hearing about a new model of medicine, figuring out that’s actually what I want to do with my life, convincing my wife, finding a location outside of my non-compete clause, making a name and logo, building out the clinic, incorporating my business, getting an accountant and a lawyer, buying medical equipment, hiring a nurse and getting phones up and running, etc. kept me busy. So when I started I had bare walls and needed to fix that!
I decided to crowdsource the problem and asked my patients if they would take home blank canvases I had purchased and paint an inspirational quote, then bring it back for the walls of my new office. That’s been going on for a few years now and we have over 160 inspirational paintings on our walls!
Some of my favorites are wisdom that comes from unlikely sources.
Here are a few such pearls that we’ve collected:
- “Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on” – Nick Fury from The Avengers
- “Everything is awesome!” –Lego Movie–
- “An apple a day keeps the doctor away if you throw it hard enough!” – anonymous –
- “Keep cool, but do not freeze.” -Hellmann’s Mayo jar-
And then there’s this nugget of wisdom that came from Mr. Worldwide himself that has helped me through the process of growing my practice from zero patients to over 2,000 with multiple clinicians:
“Short steps, long vision.” (Paso corto, vista larga.) -Pitbull-
We shortchange ourselves by thinking small. And, if you’re anything like me, you do this because you get overwhelmed with the many steps, details and nuances of which I have little to no experience. But to paraphrase a quote from the Cheshire cat to Alice in Alice In Wonderland, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there”.
Look far into your future and deep into your potential. Swing for the fences and, in the words of Dr. Leo Marvin from the movie, What about Bob?, “Just remember, baby steps!”

LOVE This! Great Quotes and inspiration. Thank you Andrew!
