Go Around

This little video meme I made really does the “picture is worth a thousand words” thing well. This is probably my favorite scene from one of my favorite movies (Office Space.) Although not much needs to be said on this topic, I think it’s worth mentioning that no middleman of any kind has improved the care that I deliver to my patients.
So many entities profit off of making our patients sick and then selling treatment for the sickness (think: Coke and GLP-1s). So many entities want to profit off of doctors and the relationships we have with our patients. Such entities seem to make it their life’s mission to make doctors hate doing the one thing we were called to do, love to do, and are good at.
My friends, these entities are IN OUR WAY. We must go around. There’s not always a way around the system in every situation, but usually there is. To prioritize going around is to devote time to the adventure. Going off-road and looking for an alternate route. The more of us do this, the more likely one of us is to find a path. It only takes one of us to find the path. That path quickly becomes a trail for others. Soon, so many are taking the better route that what was once an impassable jungle is now a highway.
This applies to more than the DPC payment model itself. It applies to affordable imaging studies, labs, specialist interactions, the list is endless. We are all doing this every day. Let’s keep going around until there are no more obstacles in our way.
