Direct Primary Care Keeps Hope Alive

None of my three kids went into medicine. I have a ton of physician friends from back in the day when I worked in the system who said the same thing. I don’t know if the image meme above is an actual person or if this really happened, but it doesn’t matter. The truth hurts because the healthcare system is so screwed up, not only for patients, but for physicians as well. Studies have shown doctors are convincing their kids NOT to go into medicine. A poll by Doximity had it at 63%!

I think if I had done Direct Primary Care earlier in my career, things may have been different for my kids. I will never know. I also think showing aspiring doctors (medical students and residents) about Direct Primary Care only keeps the last hope alive for the specialty. When they see the industrialized family doctors grinding through 3o patients in a day while bringing home work to finish in his or her pajamas, they get a little demoralized. But seeing DPC docs owning their practice, seeing 7 patients a day, spending time with them, loving their job, and actually smiling, well, this changes everything.

I now know many DPC docs who tell me their kids are in the pipeline to do Direct Primary Care.
