Some DPC News in DPC News

Here are some more stories that recently came out about Direct Primary Care.
Brown: Could a subscription model for health care cure our broken system?
In an editorial by Aaron Brown, he argues that direct primary care revives an older, simpler model of medicine. It is nice to see him extoll the benefits that patients get for about $100 a month. He traces the idea to early 20th-century local physicians who charged what patients could afford, then contrasts that with today’s consolidated, insurance-driven system, which he says strains both patients and doctors. I like that comparison. He then goes on to talk about how Dr. Nyasha Spears left Aspirus after burnout and clinic closure and opened Amity Creek Primary Care with Dr. Kristin Lusian in April. She now has more than 200 mostly uninsured or underinsured patients but she is also fighting a noncompete clause that has cost her about $300,000 in legal fees, with an appeal hearing set for Oct. 8. It’s amazing that hospitals still fight over 200 patients!!
Benefits of a Direct Primary Care Membership
A local news clip of Dr. Eric Stanek, DO, describing what Direct Primary Care is and the benefits not only for patients but for employers as well.
Canterbury House Direct Primary Care aims to offer personal attention in Mentor
Dr. Sarah Watson, a Mentor native and healthcare veteran, has opened Canterbury House Direct Primary Care following a Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce grand opening with RN Rachel Chinchar and office manager Hannah Watson. The practice uses a single monthly membership of $120, with family pricing available and enrollment kept intentionally small, and offers no copays, no bills, direct access to the doctor, and same- or next-day visits guided by evidence rather than insurance. Watson says she is proud of the personal approach and that she “sees everybody for everything,” including primary care, mental health, physicals, stitches, and prenatal care.
New direct primary care clinic coming to New Kent
A new direct primary care clinic is coming to New Kent County, with an official grand opening planned for October. Founded by New Kent residents, New Kent Direct Care, located at 3215 Rock Creek Villa Drive in the county’s Quinton area, will open in mid-October. A soft launch began this week, and clinic officials said several founding-member patients are already scheduled. The article mentions many of the benefits of DPC, including a direct line to your provider, unrushed visits scheduled, same-day or next-day urgent care, and much more.
